OCTOBER

Part of the Gallery’s mission is to provide educational opportunities to children in our area. On Wednesday, October 4th, we were able to do just that by sponsoring an Art for Kids event at the Animas Middle School in Animas, NM. The Gallery funded supplies for the event. Seventy students in grades pre-k through 6 participated in the event spearheaded by Gallery board member Di Massey, and assisted by board President Alice Wakefield and community member Trisha Johnson. The theme was aboriginal Australian art inspired by the folk tale, The Singing Snake. After listening to the story, the students completed three art projects; dot painting canvas tote bags, coloring wooden boomerangs, and drawing & painting pictures of characters from the story. It was so satisfying to see the creativity and skill in all age ranges and enforced how important art is in our lives, especially in our children. The principal, Kathy Adams, was pleased with the results and we hope she will welcome us back in the future.
